Why Does This Blog Exist?

You never know what you'll find here - anything with genealogical or historical value is fair game. This blog will be updated as I clean out my office, go through boxes and piles, or find pertinent items at antique shops. In the meantime, I hope you find something of interest here.

E. E. and Maude Philpott

From the Sioux Falls (South Dakota) Argus-Leader of Tuesday, July 09, 1907, page 3:

"The Rockham Record came out very neatly printed in red and blue on the Fourth.  The Record is a bright, newsy paper edited by E. E. Philpott.  The business men appreciate it and are using its advertising columns to good advantage."

It was a busy year for the Philpotts - a couple of whom I have no personal knowledge.  This heavy card was among family photographs, along with a photo of Mrs. Philpott.

Well, aren't I confused.  Maude M., "Beloved Wife of E. E. Philpott" died Feb. 13, 1907.  Maude E. Philpott, "Our Darling Little Daughter" was born three months after her mother's death, on May 27, 1907.  The baby died November 27, 1907 at exactly 6 months of age.

I'm confused also by the inscription on the back of the photo, and am not at all convinced there was a family connection with Dr. H. J. Seeman.  More likely, in the small town of Rockham, South Dakota, the Philpotts moved there to run the newspaper and became friendly with Dr. Seeman and his wife, Maude Kennedy Seeman.  Or perhaps they were related to Maude Seeman.  But I'd be highly surprised if this annotation is correct.

At any rate, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anyone knows of this family and might be able to shed some light..
